Professional Bio:
Kevin MacDonald is a Professor of Nanophotonics at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC). He received MPhys and PhD degrees from the University of Southampton’s School of Physics and Astronomy before joining the school as a researcher in 2001, subsequently joining to the ORC in 2006. His research interests lie in nanophotonic metrology, the physics and technology of nano-mechanical metamaterials and time crystals, and electron-beam nanophotonics. He has participated in several major EPSRC programmes on these subjects (totalling >£30M), and authored around 400 journal and conference papers. Prof MacDonald is a member of the ORC Management Board, responsible for leading the school’s contribution to the UK’s REF 2029 research assessment exercise. He was elected a Fellow of Optica in 2023; He is co-chair of the Metamaterials conference at SPIE Photonics Europe, and a member of Scientific Reports’ Editorial Board.
