Professional Bio:
Dr Andrew Henning has the role of Research Programme Lead (Principle Industrial Fellow) in the optics group within the Centre for Precision Technologies (CPT). Within the group he leads the technical side of the research on optical metamaterials for metrological applications. He received his MSci and PhD from the University of Nottingham prior to becoming a postdoc at Imperial College London and then taking a role as a ‘higher research scientist’ at NPL. He joined the optics research group at Huddersfield in 2016. His current research focusses on the control of light using artificial materials such as metamaterials and photonic crystals, and the development of metrological instrumentation exploiting these materials to achieve a significant reduction in their size and weight allowing it to be implemented in scenarios where its current form is prohibitive.
